During his June 1, 2020, statement in the White House Rose Garden on the violent protests and riots roiling our nation, President Trump asserted that: "We have one beautiful law." (Linked video at 5:37)

 

I initially found the President's assertion to be somewhat odd. After all, we have countless laws in America, many more than any one person or institution could possibly keep track of.

I then quickly (and prematurely) assumed that President Trump was implicitly referring to our sacred U.S. Constitution as a singular and magnificent "law" (which, indeed, it is).

 

The true, deeper, and altogether loftier meaning of President Trump's declaration became clear when he left the Rose Garden, crossed Lafayette Square, and stood before the damaged but enduring bastion of St. John's Episcopal Church...
